Exam Exemptions

Clarification on exemptions for exams from PCS Policy, IKH-PC:

"No high school student will be exempt from taking an examination in a course with the exception of a student, regardless of grade level, who has (1) received a passing score on an end-of- course Standards of Learning (SOL) test or an Industry Certification assessment or (2) earned an "A" average on the grades earned for the three six weeks of the semester, provided that the student does not have the option of receiving a passing score  on an end-of-course Standards of Learning test or an Industry Certification assessment.  A student who is eligible to take an end-of-course Standards of Learning test or an Industry Certification test must take the test as a means of exempting the exam; the student may not use an "A" average as a means of exempting the exam".

Students taking dual enrollment classes will not be exempted from taking an exam.  All dual enrollment courses required students to take an exam. This is a policy of VSU and DCC.

Also, students who are enrolled in a year long (2 semester) course and will not be taking an end-of-course Standards of Learning test or an Industry Certification test until the spring may qualify for an exemption for a first semester exam with an "A" average as long as it is not a DCC or VSU dual enrolled course requiring an exam.

Additionally, all students enrolled in Driver's Education must take a cumulative exam and will not be allowed to exempt this exam.
